Law 22362 on Trademarks and Trade Names governs. this issue in Argentina. (Spanish).
What is a trademark? :  
According to the above law, a trademark to diferentiate products and services is any word or words with or without a conceptual meaning, drawing, emblem, monogram, engraving, stamp, seal or image. The bands, combination of coulors, wrappers, packaging, combination of letters and numbers, letters and numbers with special design, advertising phrases, relief that may be distinguished and any other sign with that same capacity.
Term :  

A Tradamerk is in force for 10 years as from its granting and may be renewed indefinitely for equal terms.

International conventions :  
Argentina adheres to the Paris convention and therefore acknowledges a six-month period of priority to claim for a foreign mark in our country.
